Preparing for Study in China

Published

I will be returning to Zhengzhou, China for two weeks of continuing education at the end of March, at the Third Regional Hospital of Henan TCM University. In preparation, I have been reviewing notes from my last visit, pre-planning some logistics, and have started a weekly Chinese language class. After my visit in 2012, although I was impressed with the amount of knowledge that was transmitted to me over 20 four-hour shifts, despite my language deficit…I realised that working with translation will allways be somewhat limiting. I started some self study of Chinese upon my return, and after 2 years see some slow progress…thus I am excited to envision a future trip where I will communicate directly with the local doctors.

My initial contact with the the Henan Hospital of TCM was with Doctor Tian Kaiyu, who came to practice in Switzerland in the Zurich region. He helped put me in contact with the ‘School for Foreign Students’ at the university, as well as assist me with logistics in the city (population approx. 7-8M). My principal instructors during the 2012 trip were Dr. Wang, Dr. Hu, and Dr. Song. I look forward to my next visit eagerly.
